I’d like you to take a moment and think of the laundry list of responsibilities you have for yourself that if completed would mean you are a reasonably responsible adult. If you’re anything like me there’s obvious things like pay bills on time, have something in a savings account, have minimal credit card debt and have a steady career where growth is possible. All good things right? Absolutely! What gets sticky is when we focus so much on the idea of adulting responsibly we scoff old habits and even friends for not being serious enough. Life can get so hard, seemingly unfair at times too and instead of relying on our inner child to get us out of dicey situations with grace and love and laughter we turn to our adult selves who over analyze, judge and view the world through scarcity or victim glasses.
Our inner child never just saw a glass half empty or half full - they saw the pitcher of water sitting right next to the glass. How many times are we so narrow minded we forget to look at the whole picture? I read this pitcher analogy in Oprah’s book “The Path Made Clear” and I had my own ‘AHA!’ moment thinking - there’s more to this story than what meets the eye.
I want to remind you this week that there is more to your story than being responsible and checking things of your to do list of life. Have you even enjoyed the road to get to your goals? Or have you met your goal and still felt unsatisfied inside? If you’re part of the latter group you’re not alone, you get so caught up with checking things off the list, there’s never room to enjoy the triumphs because you already moved on to the next item. It’s a vicious cycle that will leave you longing for real fulfillment.
I’ve been working really hard on my green thumb lately because Buns and I love hanging out in my garden. Recently, I started noticing a beautiful butterfly here and there 🦋 and upon closer inspection found that I must have unknowingly planted a magical butterfly vine because it’s full of caterpillars! 🐛Everyone who stops by my house has to go caterpillar hunting with me. This may sound boring and a little strange to you but when was the last time you marveled at the transformation a butterfly undergoes? These little critters that kind of freak me out are the epitome of what it means to transform. I googled what the spiritual meaning of butterflies meant and it said to be reborn. What a gift! Maybe it’s a sign of my own rebirth, I have the chills just thinking about it. :)

I’ll end with this today: Dust off those adventure boots chilling in your closet and go remember what it felt like to play and wonder and marvel. Get dirty. Get real with yourself. And enjoy the sound of your own laughter. Remember theres a pitcher of water sitting right next to you.
PS. I will be in Canada 🇨🇦 this week and unable to post this Friday 07/12 but be sure to check in the week after for a special look at my Canada vacation!
